2010 Grammys. Hit or Miss?

Were you watching this years Grammys? I was.

It was fun, of course, but as usual it was long and all too 'expected'. Apart from Gaga's opening song with Elton John, the remainder of the performances were underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, the performances were good, but not spectacular.

I was really excited to see two performances: the MJ tribute and Bon Jovi. Both were... well... meh. For the Michael Jackson tribute Usher, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, Smokey Robinson and Jennifer Hudson sang "Earth Song" to a 3D movie playing in the background. I have one question: where was I supposed to get these magical 3D glasses? It was painful to my retinae watching 3D minus the elusive eyewear.

This brings me to Bon Jovi. They still look amazing for their age and have great stage presence, but for some reason they felt compelled to bring an unknown (at least to me) woman on stage to perform "Who Says You Can't Go Home" with them. Maybe she is famous in Nashville? The online voters chose Living On A Prayer as the song the group was to sing. This was the best part of their performance. Who can resist throwing their hands in the air to the chorus "OOOh we're halfway there... OOOh Livin' on a prayer!"? Not me.

The fashions were OK. In my opinion, among the best were Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Heidi Klum, Keri Hilson and Miley Cyrus (who knew? there's always a first). Nothing that made me say 'wow' though. Tres mauvais.

Something interesting to note is that Coco Rocha co-hosted with ET Canada on the red carpet, and she wore/ debuted her own design. I like these two worlds colliding. Go Coco! You were my * at the Grammys.

On Going Out to Clubs in the T-Dot.

So, I found myself going out with the girls on Friday night. You know, some tested and true stress release, dancing, drinks and stilettos. I was looking forward to all of the fun things nightlife provides.

Reality check.

We get to the club This is London. It's 10:30 and the line up is around the building for God knows what reason. I think Toronto is the only place on earth I have experienced such long line ups ALL THE TIME, yet we have the coldest weather. What gives? Girls + dresses + open toe shoes + -27 weather = disaster.

Inside the atmosphere was good for about an hour. DJ Steve Aoki was dropping good beats. 12:00 - over capacity. Think: walking sideways, holding hands not to lose the ladies, drinks spilled all over the arms, legs, clothes, shoes. No room to dance - only minor body movements are possible. No space to breathe.

Then I remembered why I avoid these scenes in the first place. Yet, I keep going out hoping for the best! In the words of Gagz, here's hoping next time we can Just Dance.

When In Rome Movie Review

I had the privilege of going to go see an advanced screening of the romantic comedy "When in Rome" starring Kristen Bell (Beth) and Josh Duhamel (Nick) last Wednesday night.

As my girlfriend and I sat in the theatre waiting for the the movie to begin, I whispered to her, "I'm actually pretty excited to see this! I was JUST in Rome so I think it will be very exciting to see the scenery. Plus, JD is pretty yummy."

Not only did the film not live up to my visual expectations, it did not really live up to it's own genre of romantic 'comedy'. Kristen Bell's performance was at times painful to watch and, though he at least managed to make me laugh on occasion, JD's performance was also sub-par. The only saving grace was the consistently entertaining one liners delivered by Dax Shepard (Gale) and Bobby Moynihan (Puck).

Listen ladies and gents, I truly wanted to like this film, I really did. The best I can say is rent it when it comes out and judge for yourself if you feel like watching a very light movie. But, please, do yourself the favour and put your money towards something worthy of your $13. Like, say, a few caramel lattes.
